My Goals:

  • I want to answer at least 2 questions in class every day.

  • I want to be organized in this class for the entire semester, with minimal fault.

  • I want to learn 1 new thing everyday in english class.

Goal 1: I want to answer at least 2 questions in class everyday.

Why I chose this goal:

I chose this goal because I saw that I wasn't participating in class as much as I wanted to. I felt that having this goal would push me to engage and answer the questions given in class.

My Progress:

At the beginning of the second half of the term I began participating, it was slow at first; I was only answering a couple questions every week. Although while I didn't realize it at the time this early progress was imperative for the successes I had with this goal. After the first few weeks I felt completely comfortable in the class to answer any questions. This has been demonstrated in the information documented under the learning section of my daily tracker. Overall I answered around 1 question per class.

Impact:

Through out this second term I have seen an increase in the confidence that I have within oral responses, progressively though out this second term, not only has my volume increased but the general length of the responses I have given has been increased. For the first responses I gave they lasted under 5 seconds on average for the first 3 weeks after I started progressing on this goal. After this period my average response time increased to over 15 seconds, most likely due to more depth in my answers as well as an increase in comfort. All of these results are recorded in my daily English tracker.

Goal 2: I want to be organized in this class for the entire semester, with minimal fault.

Why I chose this goal:

In previous classes I have been disorganized. That's why I created this goal, to strive for organizational habits and be pushed to follow them.

My Progress:

At the beginning of the term I created a notion page to track all of my assignments as well as any tasks that need to be done, I ranked them in priority according to due dates and had other fields such as, if it was being graded or not, what grade I got on it etc. Refer to the image bellow to see this organizer in action. This simple spreadsheet like table was able to keep me completely organized and knowledgeable about my due dates and when I should complete my tasks, instead of completing them at the last minute.

Impact:

Through out this semester I have seen a massive gain in how organized I am. Being organized has allowed me to focus on actually completing the assignments with the highest proficiency without being influenced by last minute stress.

Goal 3: I want to learn one new thing in class everyday.

Why I chose this goal:

In pervious classes, I have often times felt like I wasn't learning anything somedays, that's why I chose this goal. This goal pushes me to find something new in every class, whether it be a new word, a new concept or anything else.

My Progress:

This goal is part of the reason for me creating the daily English learning tracker, this tracker was introduced to allow me to record the things I learned as well as the progress I have made within my respective goals. Overall this goal pushed me to find intricate details or notice things about other's writings that I could learn from.

Impact:

This goal has allowed me to learn things that I wouldn't have otherwise learned, refer to my English tracker to find specific examples of these. Over the semester I have been carefully analyzing the example works in hopes of finding something new that I could utilize to enhance my writing, this is how I discovered comma splices before we were taught about it in class, as well as implementing the fixes to these comma splices immediately after I learned and researched about them.
